Volunteer Placement Programs
We are also able to provide Volunteer Work Placement Programs for individuals with moderate brain injury or have combined injuries that meet the Catastrophic Designation of the SABS. These individualized programs can be developed to accommodate varying degrees of impairment and provide the amount of support needed by the individual client.
Typically, these programs are useful when the expected spontaneous recovery has been realized and other active rehabilitation services are beginning to wind down. Even though return to work is not an immediate goal at this stage, it is often beneficial for the individual to be involved in some type of community based work related activity on a regular basis. These programs are developed to build on the individual’s abilities and interests. This type of longer term volunteer program promotes independence and daily structure. Programming and supervision continues until there are adequate natural supports developed at the work-site to allow the individual to carry on independently with occasional support as needed. The schedule demands and productivity expectations are more flexible and relaxed than other programs that strive to meet regular employment standards.
