Work Placement Services Process
Making a referral to Work Placement Services can be as simple as making a phone call. Referral agents are encouraged to call to discuss their client’s situation, progress to date and service needs. Also, this preliminary stage is a good opportunity for coordination with other rehabilitation services that are ongoing or expected to begin. Referral agents typically provide any reports they feel are most relevant to the client’s situation and needs.
Upon establishing that the client needs vocational rehabilitation service, Work Placement Services prepares an OCF-18 based on this initial information and then upon approval by the insurer an intake interview is arranged. An Intake Report is prepared based on the interview meeting with the client, reports reviewed and consultations with any other active service providers. The Intake Report is the basis for a Treatment Plan outlining proposed services directed towards addressing the identified disability issues and employability problems.
In some cases, a previous assessment may have identified a suitable vocational goal and we can then provide the necessary support for implementation. It sometimes happens that several vocational goals were identified, but new developments have complicated the situation or previous problems were not adequately considered. In some of these cases, progress towards the recommended goals can be delayed or sometimes completely stalled. Often times, we are able to utilize some of the previous assessment information and modify the plans or vocational goal to provide a solution. As always, we will provide the necessary support services for implementation!
Work Hardening Placement Programs are mainly for treatment to increase functioning in the case of general deconditioning or chronic pain and can be used as a work adjustment period for mood related difficulties. Vocational Counselling is used to develop vocational goals in the event that the pre-accident job is no longer available or the essential demands are no longer feasible. Labour Market Research can be used to confirm availability of the identified vocational goal, the functional demands, training requirements, remuneration and etc. We can provide placements with a training component that can lead to employment if the placement indicates a good match of abilities for the job demands. Lastly, Employment Services are available for people who are “job ready” and include resume, interview skills and job search.
A detailed report is provided at the conclusion of each service outlining progress, problems and further recommendations as appropriate.
